drupa innovation park 2016: Global platform for innovation presenting technology and business solutions for the future

Once again the drupa innovation park 2016 (dip) will be the focal point for the industry’s latest inspiring and creative developments. The six theme parks will display current trends and topics along with business cases associated with process-oriented print and publishing solutions.

Sabine Geldermann, Director of drupa, explains the intention behind dip 2016, “The dip is a fantastic way for young companies and start-ups as well as global players with forward looking solutions and applications to present themselves. Since its first appearance at drupa 2004, the ‘dip’ has made a name for itself in the industry as a pioneering technology and solution platform for the international print and media industry and we are building on this success.” Geldermann continues, “In line with the strategic restructuring of drupa 2016 and its focus on highlight topics, the drupa innovation park, with its six themed areas, will provide an opportunity for visitors to acquire insights into the technologies of the future. We believe this opportunity will give our industry an indispensable tool to support strategic business decisions.”

Visitors to the dip will find trend-setting innovations, solutions and business cases in one centrally and clearly laid-out platform. They can enjoy opportunities from dip trademarks like the integrated communication concept on the presentation stage and in the “dip energy lounge”. As an orientation forum and community meeting point, these areas will help promote interactive dialogue between everyone involved. Covering an area of more than 3000 square meters, once again the drupa innovation park can be found in Hall 7.0.
dip 2016 will be split into the following six theme parks:

Huge exhibitor demand for interpack 2014

Once again in 2014, interpack is emphasising its role as the world’s most important trade fair for the packaging sector and related processing industries.

At the official deadline for registration at the end of February 2013, all the available spaces in the Düsseldorf exhibition centre with its 19 halls were already booked out (as at the previous fair in 2011), so that not all exhibitor wishes could be met. From 8 to 14 May 2014 about 2,700 exhibitors are therefore again expected from industries ranging from food and beverages, confectionary and baked goods to pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, non-food consumer goods, industrial goods and related services. The companies are coming to Düsseldorf from about 60 countries and are occupying about 174,000 square metres of net space.

The SAVE FOOD Initiative welcomes its 100th partner from industry

A growing number of companies and organisations are supporting the SAVE FOOD Initiative dedicated to the fight against global food loss and waste. NESTLE®, the world’s biggest food company, has now joined. This means that a hundred industrial companies, associations and media are now working together with SAVE FOOD – a broad-based alliance that covers large stretches of the food value chain.

Each year, worldwide, a third of all food is thrown away or lost, while some 842 million people are suffering from hunger at the same time. In 2011, to rectify this distressing state of affairs, Messe Düsseldorf and the FAO jointly launched the SAVE FOOD Initiative, which has also been enjoying support from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) since the beginning of 2013. By networking with its public partner organisations and members in industry, the initiative aims to identify specific ways of reducing international food loss and waste.

“Reducing food loss and waste is an important part of the journey to be able to feed 9.6 billion people by 2050. We are delighted to join the SAVE FOOD Initiative as the complex issue of addressing food loss and waste can only be tackled through an holistic and collaborative approach. NESTLE ® is firmly committed to further reducing food loss and waste along the entire production chain from farm to consumers and beyond,” says Dr. Anne Roulin, Global R&D Sustainability Manager, NESTLE ®.

    The SAVE FOOD approach

To achieve its goal of a substantial reduction in food loss and waste, the SAVE FOOD Initiative is pursuing four successive goals:

    1. It is essential to draw the necessary attention to the problem and raise awareness.
    2. The involvement of industry makes it possible to pool the resources of private and public organisations.
    3. The combination of expertise that arises in this process is used for the development of basic strategies and programmes.
    4. Building on this, the aim is to establish concrete investment programmes that encourage and call for engagement by public and private enterprises.

Central to the SAVE FOOD approach is its networking with industry, because international organisations rely on cooperation with industry in the battle against food loss and waste. interpack as the flagship fair for the packaging sector and related processing industries is therefore playing an important part in this initiative by contributing the expertise of its international contacts in industry and associations to the initiative’s work. At upcoming interpack 2014, a SAVE FOOD Congress on the subject of food loss and waste, bringing together experts from industry, the political sphere and civil society, will be taking place in Düsseldorf on 7 and 8 May.

Good prospects for interplastica and UPAKOVKA / UPAK ITALIA in Moscow

Russia continues to provide an environment for the plastics and rubber industry and for the packaging sector. The country’s economy is still growing, and its main strengths are the size of its domestic market and its consumption-focused society.

Consumer-oriented industries are therefore showing particularly dynamic growth, e.g. food and beverages, the automotive industry, construction, electrical and electronic goods, medical engineering, the chemical industry and sports and leisure. They all have one thing in common: a strong demand for plastics and rubber and for state-of-the-art functional packaging. As the modernisation of Russia’s domestic industry continues to be in need of strengthening, innovative machinery is just as much in demand as raw materials, packaging, tools, technical components and industrial services.

These are good conditions for the international exhibitors at interplastica and UPAKOVKA/UPAK ITALIA 2014. The two leading trade fairs in plastics and rubber and in packaging and process engineering will be held simultaneously from 28 to 31 January. Trade visitors can look forward to an even wider range than at previous events. In all, approximately 1,000 exhibitors will be showcasing their innovative products and services on a net space of about 17,000 square metres.

New technologies, processing and packaging solutions: UPAKOVKA/UPAK ITALIA is a trendsetter for the Russian market

At UPAKOVKA/UPAK ITALIA exhibitors from over 20 countries will be showing what matters in the industry: Technological innovations on the one hand, optimisation of proven machines and processes on the other. The key area of focus is the presentation of complete production process chains. Here, the trend is tending towards integrated concepts as opposed to isolated, individual solutions.

UPAKOVKA/UPAK ITALIA therefore provides a window on the complete value creation chain: From packaging manufacturers and imprinting onto packaging right through to converting and finishing. This makes UPAKOVKA/UPAK ITALIA the most important exhibition for the industry in Russia and the neighbouring GUS countries.

UPAKOVKA/UPAK ITALIA 2012: Top class technology

Investment in the Russian packaging industry on the rise again +++ 20,000 attend trade fair in Moscow.

Russia is one of the TOP 20 consumer goods markets worldwide, and with about 143 million consumers, it is an important market, especially for the food and beverage industry. Domestic consumption benefits from the fact that the middle class is growing steadily and the population’s consumption patterns and consumer habits are changing noticeably. There is evidence of a marked change in direction, in particular when it comes to food and beverages, with processed and packaged food as well as convenience products gaining increasing popularity. Demand for such products is also on the increase due to the continued spread of super- and hypermarkets, which are now gradually becoming established in medium-sized towns.
