Business Program of the trade fair "Upakovka / UpakItalia-2012"

UPAKOVKA/UPAK ITALIA has established itself as the outstanding platform for making and maintaining business contacts in the Russian packaging market – the 20th international trade fair for packaging machinery, packaging production and packaging material is taking place in Moscow from 24 to 27 January 2012.

The market for packaging in Russia is still growing. Changing consumer behaviour and growing brand awareness are just two factors affecting the food sector in particular and many other sectors of the consumer goods industry. Domestic suppliers of packaging have to respond not only to a significant increase in demand, but also to higher expectations with respect to quality. Investments in modern machines and packaging are the result, and solutions for partial modernisations are also in great demand. There are excellent business opportunities for international suppliers who can provide innovative technologies and comprehensive service packages.

UPAKOVKA/UPAK ITALIA 2011: The Russian packaging market is gaining noticeable momentum

With approximately 143 million consumers, Russia is one of the most important foreign markets for consumer goods in the world, in particular for food and beverages, which currently account for about 30% of consumer spending in Russia and spending on food predicted to rise by 62% by 2015.

At the same time, living and eating habits are changing, with convenience products enjoying great popularity. Their growing popularity and availability is accompanied by a growing number of super- and hypermarkets, which can increasingly be found even in medium-sized towns. These developments have given a new stimulus to the Russian packaging industry and there is great interest in innovative technologies and materials for producing packaging. Following a slump in demand due to the impact of the global financial and economic crisis in 2009 and early 2010 the market is now picking up and gaining momentum again, as reported in unison by the exhibitors at UPAKOVKA/UPAK ITALIA 2011, the international trade fair for packaging machinery, packaging production and packaging material.

UPAKOVKA/UPAK ITALIA 2010: Undiminished interest in international high technology

UPAKOVKA/UPAK ITALIA, the international trade fair for packaging machinery, packaging production and packaging material, will open its doors in the Moscow exhibition centre Krasnaja Presnja from 26 - 29 January 2010. In spite of the effects of the global financial crisis, which has also hit Russia and neighbouring regions, the signs for the future indicate cautious optimism.

For instance, experts predict that Russia will experience economic growth in the years ahead, making it one of the most important consumer markets worldwide. The Russian population is striving for a higher standard of living and the Food Processing and Packaging Machinery Association within the VDMA emphasised the great interest and the unrelenting demand for high quality equipment from the West, even if some investments have had to be postponed for the time being. Measures put in place by the Russian government have also been helpful in bringing about an upturn, for example, the abolishment of the import sales tax on a total of 200 types of machinery and equipment, including many used in the packaging industry, agreed this summer. The beneficiaries of this tax relief, which can account for as much as 18 percent of the price of a machine*, include manufacturers of injection moulding machines, vacuum forming machines and sleeve wrapping machines.
