About us
Macchi (an international official site) was founded in 1961 and became one of the first extrusion equipment manufacturers worldwide. From the very beginning, Macchi has concentrated all its efforts in creating high-end co-extrusion film equipment. To this day, Macchi is among the world leaders in coextrusion technology.
The company’s policy is based on continuous technical improvement of equipment, the use of first-class components and advanced design solutions, the development and application of the latest technologies for production lines and the desire for their full automation, designing not only universal, but also unique lines that take into account individual customer requests. This operating principle has enabled Macchi to become a leading player in the international market.
Macchi currently has two businesses in the suburbs of Milan. On one of them, extruders are assembled for the production of films by blowing (BUBBLE-lines) for the production on an industrial scale of single-layer and multi-layer (up to 9 layers) films. On the other - extruders with flat-slotted heads for the manufacture of film by irrigation (CAST-line) with a capacity of more than 2 tons of film per hour. The total production area is 15,000 sq.m.

Five or seven extruders have quickly become the answer to achieve the desired optical properties, printability and sealability by balancing the characteristics of the new resins which are being made available in the raw materials market, for instance compensating the excessive elasticity of metallocene or linear skins in very thin structures by using stiffer grades in dedicated layers.

The POD concept, offering unprecedented possibilities of film downgauging, higher output rates and better product performances, is paving the way to new business opportunities across the film markets.


One of the best known Macchi innovations have been the COEX FLEX “platforms”. All the components of the hot section are assembled on a baseplate, resulting in a compact unit which fits perfectly into a standard container, or under an existing extrusion tower.
The result is a user-friendly system which is not only economic to transport, but also easy to install and which allows the upgrade of an old mono layer system into an up to date coextrusion system, for a fraction of the investment.

COEX FLEX 5 - 7 - 9

The growing requirements of the packaging industry have driven the development of barrier films, from the early, simple PA/PE structures, to the introduction of EVOH and the use of triple, asymmetrical barriers and differentiated outer layers.
Thus, today the Macchi range of systems for the barrier film industry spans from 5 to 9 layers, all fully engineered to be integrated production systems.


A growing film application area in blown film extrusion encompasses the pieces of equipment used to produce wide web films, whose main application areas span from ground covering (mulching and fumigation) to horizontal “silo bags” and greenhouse tunnels coverings.

BO Series Winders

Winding is one of the critical moments in blown film extrusion: even the highest quality film, if wound incorrectly, can seriously affect the following printing or converting operations.
Since years therefore Macchi has developed the BO winding concept, which includes a complete range of digitally controlled, gearless, horizontal winding units, and which is nowadays universally considered as one of the best performing on the market.


The RECOTRIM is a quite unique pelletizing system, developed to allow the in-line recycling of the side trims produced during film extrusion. As a standard, it is supplied with an air/trim separation hopper, which results quite useful when the winder is equipped with a Venturi suction system to allow the removal of the trims, but it can be completed upon request with a nip roll, whose speed matches the winder speed.

Group packing

Thanks to a consumption close to one million tons in Europe only, collation shrink film is nowadays the largest application field after stretch film. Its functions are constantly evolving, from the first simple bundles, to a sophisticated three or (more and more) five layer film for significant weight reduction.

Wide film (for large objects and surfaces)
These films, used when it is necessary to cover large surfaces, satisfy the most different needs, spanning from three layer construction films where mechanical properties are under the spot light, to greenhouse films, where the performances are more complex.
Particularly for the latter, this is a good reason to opt for state-of-the-art lines, which allow to improve the standard three layer structures to combine features like heath-effect and UV resistance with anti-fog, light diffusion and weather resistance, to prolong the useful life of the films despite the attacks by the weather conditions and the chemicals used on cultivation.
Flexible packaging
Flexible packaging, the third largest films application field, is the area where a simple film becomes part of a complex structure, often in association with paper or aluminum foil, designed to satisfy the requirements of the packaging industry.
Leaving alone the barrier structures, these films generally sport superior optical and mechanical features, to be run on fast converting lines such as printers or laminators. Another interesting characteristic is the biaxial orientation of blown stretch film, which gives it an advantage over the cast film alternatives.
Food packaging

There are several good reasons why food packaging is getting more and more prominent: some 30% of the world food production is wasted because of lack of proper packaging, the world population is projected to reach almost 10 billion in 2050, the pace of urbanization is getting faster, together with the development of a richer middle class with Western consuming patterns.

Web conversion
This area encompasses all the applications where the films undergo only limited converting processes, generally sealing/bag-making and simple printing.
Typically, these include films designed to be transformed in shopping or carrier bags alongside with specialty bags for heavy duty applications (FFS). If we take wider webs into consideration, stretch hood tubing, a valuable palletizing alternative to stretch-wrapping or shrink-hooding is a fast-growing application. General purpose packaging business, with film direct application, is also experimenting good growth rates, and it is also possible to find specialty applications, such as surface protection and masking films.

Macchi offers a wide range of complete flat film production lines from the smallest 800mm single-layer film production line to the 5 and 7-layer barrier film production lines.
