Production of masterbatches and additives for plastic processing.
The Gabriel-Chemie Group is delighted to announce the opening of a new, state-of-the-art warehouse that will now serve as the central logistics hub for the entire Gabriel-Chemie group. Covering a total area of 3,200 m² and with space for 5,000 pallets, the new facility sets standards in storage capabilities and efficiency.
A significant contribution to the company’s sustainability efforts is the integration of a photovoltaic system with a power output of 320 kWp. This system supports the facility’s energy needs and contributes to a long-term reduction in the company’s carbon footprint.
Since the early 80’s, medical products have been a central significance for the Gabriel-Chemie Group.
Gabriel-Chemie Deutschland GmbH recently has been awarded with the EN ISO 13485 certification, the quality management system for medical devices.

Gabriel-Chemie Group, in cooperation with GSM Sella and Aurora Kunststoffe GmbH, has developed a new masterbatch for post-industrial PA66 to produce stadium seats.

The masterbatch added to postindustrial polymer guarantees the manufactured articles’ mechanical resistance and flame-retardant properties, as well as a good aesthetic appearance and the necessary resistance to prolonged exposure to UV rays and other aggressive atmospheric agents, in compliance with the strict international safety regulations of the stadiums. The result of this successful cooperation is the production of 30,000 new stadium seats.
Plastics`recycling in the EU has increased by almost 80 % since 2006. During the same period, landfill disposal has significantly declined by 43%. The problem when it comes up to recycling is the fact that some black and coloured plastic items do not get recognized by detecting/sorting machines. That is why these pieces are still disposed as landfill or incinerated to produce energy. So the common use of carbon black still issues the big challenge with it.
The reason resides in the fact that sorting machines usually work with near-infrared (NIR) sensors. However, plastics items that contain carbon black absorbs the light signal instead of reflecting it, and the product is not detected, thus not sorted and end up its service life as landfill mass or as an incineration mass. Gabriel-Chemie introduces a professional solution for NIR-detectable and sortable thermoplastic masterbatch colours. The NIR reflective masterbatch is made by using special pigment formulations which enable the correspondent sorting and recycling, is food contact approved and even laser markable.
Today‘s consumer wants to be approached innovatively and personally by a creative packaging design and marketing concept. Particularly in the world of the cosmetics industry and also in food packaging, not only optical characteristics but also haptic and functional properties play a big role - packaging for all the senses.
An imaginative selection of materials, extraordinary surface designs and intelligent additives in the plastic significantly influence the successful launch of a product and thus also the acceptance by the end user. For example, tubes, bottles, jars, dispenser systems, caps, closures and many other objects can be refined with laser technology. The Gabriel-Chemie Group offers full service for lasermarking: from the project idea to its realisation.
Plastic Jewels is the name of the new series of beautiful polymer colours, developed and realized by Gabriel-Chemie and styled with Colors & Effects® Pigments from BASF. These 18 fascinating colour creations are demonstrated in a total of 36 glossy and matt flip-top closures.
They are magnificent, rare and probably the most precious designs of nature: glittering gems have wakened a deep fascination for humans over many millennia, since their magical beauty captures every glance. Velvety Bordeaux red, seductive purple, rich deep green, brilliant aquamarine, royal midnight blue – let you hardly escape from the fascination of coloured gemstones and they charm their admirers. The effect pigments of BASFs’ Colors & Effects brand awaken desires and can positively influence the eye of the beholder with unique colour creations. Especially today the differentiation and eye-catching of successful products need to be supported and enhanced by their colours and effects.
As part of its sustainability initiative, the Gabriel-Chemie Group is implementing several strategy programs. One of the first modules is the introduction of a colour range based on Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) polypropylene.
Gabriel-Chemie has been working for some time on the reduction of virgin materials, i.e. the native, fossil raw materials in plastic or masterbatch processing. With a first colourful masterbatch offer from Post Consumer Recycled polypropylene, a milestone in the market has been achieved.

Creating packaging for food and beverages with sensitive contents, such as mineral water, is one of the most challenging tasks in the packaging industry. The final product needs to be protected throughout the supply chain, but under no circumstances may the packaging have a negative effect on the taste, smell, or any other sensory property of the contents.
A flavour impairment caused by the packaging would be detected immediately by the consumer, potentially leading to complaints, product recalls, negative social media coverage, or damage to the reputation and integrity of the brand. It is often hard to trace in which part of the value chain – beginning with the raw materials and ending at the consumer – the problems were caused.
The website of Gabriel-Chemie www.gabriel-chemie.com is now online with a new concept and a modern look. The relaunch of the website is part of the brand repositioning, which also involved an update of the entire corporate design. The new website design will result in the new brand presence also being consistently implemented online.
Under the claim “Bringing Life to Plastics”, the company is enhancing its brand presence and summing up what Gabriel-Chemie stands for. Communications focus on the interests and needs of customers. This is also reflected in the newly designed website which is now much more user-friendly and provides space for current topics and valuable content. Gabriel-Chemie has also worked fundamentally on the visual character: large graphic elements and a modern page design provide a special user experience.
Having recently acquired Italian company TE.MA. s.r.l., the Austrian family-run business Gabriel-Chemie is continuing its expansion into southern Europe. While Gabriel-Chemie previously held a number of key accounts in Italy, the new subsidiary means that the company can now adopt a nationwide approach to market cultivation.
Italy is the third largest market for thermoplastic materials in Europe and, according to official studies, has an annual demand of more than 120,000 tonnes of masterbatches; a figure which is expected to increase by 8% up to 130,000 tonnes a year by 2019.

The international company TE.MA. s.r.l., based in Fara Gera d´Adda in the province of Bergamo, has been restyled as Gabriel-Chemie Italia s.r.l. and is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Austrian parent company, Gabriel-Chemie GmbH. The operational management of the subsidiary remains in the capable hands of the long-standing Managing Director and founder of TE.MA, Dr Afro Palla. Both sides have agreed not to disclose information about the purchase price.

The primary business of the Italian company is the production of colour, additive and combination masterbatches as well as technical compounds. Other areas of specialist expertise include flame protection and stadium seating, which combine to produce excellent synergy with the expertise of the Gabriel-Chemie Group and generate additional growth potential. In addition to masterbatch production, the company also runs a modern laboratory with a strong emphasis on research and development, as well as a marketing organisation.

Managing Director of the Gabriel-Chemie Group, Elisabeth Sommer, is delighted with this new partnership: "Both companies complement each other perfectly, our understanding of strong customer focus and high level of expertise when it comes to finding solutions for complex technical requirements follow the same corporate philosophy."

The Austrian plastics company already has seven subsidiaries abroad and, following the recent foundation of Gabriel-Chemie Ibérica in December 2015, the new subsidiary founded in Italy is yet another important step in its growth strategy.
