In September 2018, Bobst Lyon will open its Competence Center at its Bron site near Lyon. The construction of this new 114-meter long demonstration facility spanning 2,000 square meters, began in October 2017.
For the first time, Bobst Lyon will have its own showroom dedicated entirely to its equipment. Customers will be able to come and learn about its full production lines in real operating conditions. BOBST engineers and technicians will also use the Competence Center to improve their own skills and develop innovative new machines.

The signs that it would be a great event for the flexo printing industry were all there but the huge turnout of Open House visitors greatly exceeded expectations. On 27 and 28 February, the Competence Center of Bobst Bielefeld was filled to capacity with over 400 leading packaging converters and suppliers who travelled to Germany to discover BOBST’s new 20SEVEN CI flexo press optimized for Extended Color Gamut (ECG) printing, and to learn more about the ECG process.
The 20SEVEN clearly demonstrated its expanded process consistency at the event. This benefit derives from a number of technical features relating to press vibrations, ink consistency in dosing and metering, drying at high speed and register tenure, which have been engineered to give consistency, accuracy and repeatability to the printing process.
The 2018 Print4All exhibition takes place from 29th May to the 1st June in Milan, Italy, with a new extended format offering a wide showcase of printing and converting technologies in all market segments. The BOBST stand E23/D24 in hall 18, will impress visitors with the vast number of innovative and highly efficient solutions and applications in the flexible material, folding carton, and corrugated board industries.
This includes the very latest developments in the series of new BOBST web-fed technology products and process solutions introduced since last year. For example, there is the very latest 20SEVEN CI flexo press, which was launched in February 2018 and brings the advantages of process consistency and repeatability to a new level with both conventional or Extended Color Gamut printing.
Mouvent – a new company focused on digital print using pioneering digital technology – is making its textile exhibition debut at ShanghaiTex 2017, 27–30 November, in Shanghai. This will be the company’s first public appearance in China and its first global trade show demonstrating the TX801 – an 8-color multi-pass digital textile printer producing the highest print quality on textiles with up to 2,000 DPI optical resolution, associated with high printing speeds.
There will be four live demonstrations each day of the TX801 at the Mouvent booth, at the following times: 10h30, 11h30, 14h00 and 16h00. The Mouvent Team welcomes you to visit booth G01 in Hall W5 during ShanghaiTex 2017 to witness a true leap forward in digital printing for the textile industry.
Having chosen to build up to the show with a whisper on the innovations presented, BOBST ended Labelexpo Europe 2017 with a roar; a huge number of visitors and the announcement of multiple sales deals closed on stand during the show, crowned BOBST’s most successful participation to date.
“We presented the new M1 Press, an effective choice to produce self-adhesive labels: robust, fully performing to BOBST quality standards and showing the first level of BOBST Digital Automation (laser-pre-register and automatic register). The new M5X, for Labels and Packaging, performed the Second Level of Digital Automation, total automation in print pressure and register adjustment without any manual intervention.” comments Antonio Bellosi, Bobst Firenze R&D Director, who added: “Probably the most impressive demonstration was the Digital Flexo Challenge; an M6 UV Flexo press at a converter’s plant in Milan (www.acm-plastic.it) and a “twin” M6 press on the BOBST LabelExpo booth were challenging each other on set-up time of a food packaging job, filmed “Live”, with a split screen satellite video connection. The 2 presses were filmed in detail, operating a job change-over “live” at almost 1.000 km apart, in front of hundreds of converters every day, twice a day. The 2 M6 presses have shown at LabelExpo “in real time” eight almost identical change-over times, proving that with the Third Level of Digital Automation (automated job exchange) any M6 Digital Flexo press, with any operator, in any site in the world, can change from one job to a complete new job in one minute, with an unlimited number of Pantones.”.
Anyone who has visited a BOBST stand at a Labelexpo Europe exhibition will know they will experience the technology of tomorrow, heralding new business opportunities. This year is no different.
The event – taking place in Brussels between the 25th and 28th of September – will feature a BOBST stand that will be one of the largest of the exhibition, featuring equipment in operation, exciting presentations and connectivity displays. As many as three narrow- mid-web in line UV flexo printing presses will be in demonstration: the M5X, the M1 and the M6 lines, all in their latest configuration and fitted with enhanced features, will print and convert “live” label and flexible packaging production.
As a dedicated converting event, ICE Europe (21- 23 March 2017, in Munich) is the ideal platform for BOBST process specialists to take visitors through the displays and samples dedicated to functional substrate excellence. The information available and the samples produced in BOBST’s Competence Centers in Europe will reflect the equipment capabilities to satisfy the global market demand for added value applications aimed at increasing substrate functionalities.
These include vacuum web coating and metallizing processes: from the very latest AluBond® breakthrough in advanced metal adhesion technology, through to the processes for the production and the conversion of AlOx clear high barrier films, to the well-established SelectMet® system and DarkNight® process. Information will also be available about the new K5 EXPERT, the highest productivity metallizer in the world.
At Drupa 2016, leading Mexican paper and packaging manufacturer, Grupo Gondi, signed a very large deal with BOBST and BHS Corrugated for the supply of eleven new production lines. The order will see equipment installed at existing Grupo Gondi facilities in Mexico, as well as at green field sites, over the next two years. The purchase includes two complete 2.5m wide corrugators designed by BHS Corrugated, a BOBST pre-print press line, high accuracy flat-bed BOBST die-cutters, and five automated BOBST folding and gluing lines. The delivery of the equipment will commence during the last quarter of 2016.
Eduardo Posada, CEO of Grupo Gondi, said “These investments will support the rapid expansion we are undertaking by updating and expanding our production capabilities with state-of-the-art technology and by adding the extra capacity we need for the near future. It means that we will continue to provide the market with the best possible packaging solutions while we also support the investments that our major clients are making in new plants in the region.”
Bobst Group SA, Mex/Switzerland, and WIFAG-Polytype Group, Bern/Switzerland, have entered into exclusive negotiations regarding a potential acquisition of WIFAG-Polytype’s coating technology business, as part of the BOBST strategy to successfully drive and continuously expand its existing product portfolio. With this acquisition, BOBST intends to leverage the strengths of both companies and to continue growing its coating technology business internationally.
The proposed transaction is subject to the parties reaching a definitive agreement, with the closing of the transaction expected to occur at the end of the second quarter of 2016. Even if a definitive agreement is reached, the transaction may be subject to customary regulatory approvals and potentially other conditions. There is no assurance, however, that any definitive agreement will be reached or that the closing of the contemplated transaction will occur.
